Friday Favorites and Fudgeroos

This week i went to Wal Mart to find some less expensive hair care..I picked up the Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner and the Organix Brazillian Keratin Treatmentn..The conditioner is not any good at all it doesnt spread or moisturize well...The Keratin Treatment i used last night, your supposed to not wash your hair for 48 hours but i washed it this morning and it did pretty well,my curl is more relaxed and no frizz whatsoever. The only issue withe the Keratin treatment is,while flat ironing your hair smells like burnt cocoa butter and you have to iron each section 7-10 times so its very time consuming, the plus side is i didnt use much treatment and my hair is very thick and frizzy, therefore ill have a few more treatments with that bottle!!So the Brazilian Keratin Treatment was $13.47 at Wal-Mart and worth every penny, the Organix Coconut Milk conditioner was around $6 and i would not recommend it if you have thick hair that needs moisturizing..Until next time,J Blake

Life with Feathers

So I've had my feathers for about a week and so far they are great..I still shampoo and condition as usual its just detangling your hair after showering can be tricky;just make sure that you COMB around the feathers and basically your good..The feathers dont bleed when wet and dont cause any discomfort and i still flat iron my hair as usual.Overrall i really like feather extensions and would reccomend them if you want a bit of color without chemicals or damage..Until next time,J Blake

Daily Rountine for Damaged Hair

Like alot of people i have damaged hair,my hair is very thick, wavy and frizzy and my damage is caused from bleaching and coloring and the occasional flat ironing. So to keep my hair manageable i have to use protects for damaged hair.

I shampoo my hair with the Joico K-Pak Reconstructing Shampoo and i follow up with the conditioner;these products are amazing they leave my hair so soft and silky and they smell amazing!

After i shampoo and condition i towel dry my hair and apply Bed Head Dumb Blonde Leave in conditioner..Clearly this product is for bleached hair but its also for any type of color treated hair,it protects from color fading and moisture loss and has a UV protectant and heat protectant.

I try not to blow dry or flat iron my hair unless I'm going somewhere important,i actually hardly ever blow dry so after the leave-in i usually let my hair air dry.

If i know i will be flat ironing my hair, after the leave in i spray Chi Shine Infusion onto my wet hair,i actually think this is the same as the Chi Silk Infusion just the aerosol version. And then i let my hair air dry.If im not going to blow dry i wont use a heat protectant before i flat iron because the leave in conditioner has one built in

After flat ironing i apply Bed Head Dumb Blonde Smoothing Stuff for added shine and fly away control, plus it smells great..note: apple this on the end only it will make your hair appear greasy

Being as my hair is damaged i find its necessary to do treatments and masks twice a week so in no specific order i do so.

My favorite reconstructor is Biosilk Recovery Treatment it really repairs your hair and makes it stronger and ceases breakage but it doesn't moisturize well.

My favorite mask for moisture is the L'Oreal EverPure smoothing masque, this is moisturizing however the rosemary mint smell is a bit overwhelming.

My favorite scalp treatment is the Chambre hair and scalp treatment..this is very minty smelling so it makes your scalp tingle, the hard thing is its very thick and it has to be applied to your scalp and it doesn't moisturize well but its great to get your scalp stimulated.

My least favorite reconstructor is the Bed Head Dumb Blonde Reconstructor..This product repairs breakage but not as well as the Biosilk, and it does not moisturize at all!

So these are just the products i use to keep my hair shiny and manageable and too prevent breakage..All of these products can be found at Ulta or maybe even a drugstore..all except the chambre i think it has to be ordered,so until next time, best wishes and happy hair =),J Blake

Repairing Damaged Hair

Damaged hair happens to most of us,whether its from heat or chemivals or even both its all a fighting battle in which we usually lose to.When hair is damaged, its damaged, the only thing you can really do is get it cut;however that does not mean go get a haircut in which your hair is an inch long.Just going to get a trim and a great hair routine can affect the feel and look of your hair. All winter my hair was dark brown, this summer i heavily highlighted it twice which damaged it;my hair is very thick so a little breakage isnt noticeable. To keep my hair in decent condition i use Joico K-Pak Reconstruct shampoo and conditioner. These products are amazing, they smell great and they restore moisture and strength back to hair;i first noticed improvement when my air dried hair began to get wave and curl back to it,and its very shiny and soft.I am due for a trim because my hair is thick, wavy, and somewhat coarse so that with coloring tends to dry my ends up so if you have damaged hair like i do that conditioner and shampoo set is a must, compared to redken or matrix its very affordable.I promise with the use of these products, and regular trims;your hair will thank you!Until next time,The Hair Guru,J Blake.

Seasonal Hair Color

Like most people,I change my hair color with the seasons, during the fall and winter i have ym hair dark brown, and have it lighter in the spring and summer.Things to remember are to use a good shampoo and conditioner and a protein reconstructor..Then in the fall when you dye your hair dark,if you have bleached or highlighted hair then you will need to use a filler with your color to hold the color, otherwise the dye will wash out in a week or two.Color fillers add different bases back to your hair, such as the golden base, and it has to be done if you want your color to process correctly and hold,The Hair Guru,J Blake

Wig Care

Synthetic and human hair wigs are great to enhance your look or change your current style. They really dont require much maintnence except for shampooing once a month and brushing ocassionally. It is indeed possible to straighten or curl a synthetic. To do so,wet the wig and use the iron on a low setting,so wigs are definately a way to go if you like to switch your hair style frequently or have thinning hair. The Hair Guru,J Blake.

Hair extensions

Many of us have dreams of having long luxurious hair, but most of us have hair that grows slow,or bleach blonde hair etc, therefore keeping our hair in good condition is more important.Kourtney Kardashian and Holly Madison are two examples.Kourtney Kardashians hair as shoulder length but when you see her on tv its waist length, that is because she wears human hair extensions, more than likely sew in,which is were the majority of your hair is cornrowed and the extensions are sewn in to the braidsThis is Kourtney's actual hair.My guess would be her hair is probably thinner so she wears extensions to give it length and body.
As you can see her she has much more length and body and gives her the ability to pull off the famous kardashian hair
Now Holly Madison clearly bleaches her hair, therefore i would imagine she has to sacrifice having long hair to keep her hair healthy.

Now Holly uses something different, she uses a half wig or a fall to just give lenth, her own hair is out in the front.Either way she looks amazing either way.

The most important thing to remember when using any hair length enhancements remember to match the color exactly to your color, what may look good in sunlight may be noticeable different sunlight. Also remember to match your texture. If you have very curly hair then straight sewn in extensions wont be a good idea.Basically just keep in mind to match yourcolor and your texture and youll be in luck, also if your getting sewn in or fusion extensions seek a professional..The Hair Guru,J Blake.

Battling Breakage

Bleaching, heat styling, etc. all takes a toll on your hair.Just beause your hair is damaged doesnt mean it has to look bad.Use a great shampoo and conditioner and an intensive treatment to help damaged hair. Also Use heat protection but dont use heat too often.Sorry that todays post is so short but it got the point across. The Hair Guru,J Blake.

Ombre Haircolor

Ombre hair color is were the hair goes from darker to ligter,it has been seen on stars such as Drew Barrymore, and Rachel Bilson.
Ombre hair color, can easily be done at home, because the key to this look is not perfect, what you'll want to dark is pick a dye(preferably demi permanent) that is one to two shades darker than your current color.

Step 1.Mix the color according to the manufacturers directions.Put on gloves.

Step 2.Section your hair into four sections for easier color distribution.

Step 3.Apply the color at the roots and blend it down one or two inches onto the hair.then take small sections and blend the color down further.
Step 3.timing is key, most colors process in 25 to 30 minutes, follow your directions.

Step 4.wash and condition your hair, anytime you color your hair its a good idea to use a deep conditioner to seal in the color, then style as usual and enjoy your ombre color!!

Beating the Heat

Today heaat damage is one of the contributing factors of damaged hair.Whether you use a flat iron, curling irons, rollers,or just a blow dryer,it all takes a toll on our hair.Heat damage is 100% preventable although most of us dont take the time to go the extra mile for our hair.Heat protection starts in your shower,a great conditioner really helps your hair care regimen,if you use heat tools on a regular basis, then youll want a conditioner that is very moisturizing and/or repairs damage. After the shower youll want a leave-in conditioner that has a heat protectant to protect from heat damage caused by a blow dryer.I recommend Redken Satin wear ultimate blow dry lotion..Next before flat ironing spray  each section of hair with a heat protectant such as Chi 44 Iron Guard. If your curling the hair then find a heat protectant that is meant for use with curling irons or hot rollers.Even with consistent use of heat protection products, regular trims are mandatory in mainting healthy hair; The Hair Guru,J Blake

Know Your Hair

Understanding your hair texture, natural color, how much curl you have, will give you a better understanding of what chemical process you can do to your hair without causing extreme damaging. For instance,if you have very fine hair a sodium hydroxide relaxer will cause extreme damage. If your hair hair is very dry or already damaged then you shouldnt use bleach.I myself have very thick, wavy, frizzy hair and i can bleach my hair 3 times in one day and get it white and only have slight damage;but that doesnt mean everyone will get the same results. If your in doubt about your texture, porosity, wave pattern, consult your hairdresser and have them explain it to you.Wishing everyone a great day,J Blake.

Cell Phone Care

Cellphones are not cheap,by any means,so its important to  take care of them.In doing so,you will need two things,1.screen protector.2.some kind of cover, whether it be a hard case,or a soft silicone one.Screen protectors will protector your screen from becoming scuffed and scratched.there are a few different kinds, clear, matte(no glare),mirror, and privacy. There are also many kinds of phone covers cases, hard cases, soft silicone or rubber ones,or a very popular brand,Otterbox, which can be a bit pricey. So these two items should keep your phone in great shape.Until next time,J Blake.

An explanation

As youve noticed, the name of my blog is The Hair Guru, with that said my posts wont just be about hair, about 90% will be but i also will talk about other things i know about such as skincare, make up,waxing and electronics.Lets face it,it would be awfully boring if i just talk about hair the whole time, and also i want people to know that i dont just, eat, sleep, and breathe hair.So two more posts will be coming today.Until then,J Blake.

Tips to change hairstyles

Once you've worn a hair style for so long it gets old.If you desire a new style, dont go change your hair color,in fact some of the simplist changes can make a dramatic difference
For instance, parting your hair on the opposite side that you usually do,or if you have a center part, try a side part.tip#2 if you normally wear straight hair or curly hair, change it up,if your hair is straight, wear it curly, vice versa.Want longer thicker hair?maybe opt for clip in extensions.
have a great day and have fun finding your perfect hairstyle!!

Which Mobile Device is right for you?

Today we have many different types of cell phones available, and alot of people buy one only to find that theyre unhappy with theyre choice.Furthermore,im here today(yes iknow electronics, not just hair haha) to explain my experience with different mobile devices operating systems.

1.Android-i have had 4 Android phones, all from Verizon Wireless.2 Motorola droids A855,Motorola Droid 2 A955,and the HTC Inredible.Motorola's droids are more user friendly than HTC's version, from my own experience,Android itself is okay, but it still has aloot of bugs that arent fixed, such apps crashing frequently, but the android market does have alot of great apps,as well as quite a few useless ones,so overall i give Android a 6/10

2.Blackberry-I have had three Blackberry devices, the Blackberry Curve 8330,The Blackberry Pearl 8130,and The Blackberry Tour 9630.BlackBerry phones are great, they have decent battery life, the newer ones are very sleek and the set up of the menu and homescreen is very nice, the only flaw is the BlackBerry App world. They do not have as many apps as the Android Market, but the Blackberry is a great device if you send and recieve and recieve alot of emails.Blackberry recieves 7/10

3.Apple-i have had three iphones..The iPhone 8GB,the iPhone 3G 8GB,and my current phone the iPhone 3GS 32GB.I love the iPhone, the menu and the style is very recognizeable and distinctive. For the most part its pretty fast, until you get alot of things going at once, such as listening to the iPod,texting and browsing the web.iPhones arent very customizable,UNLESS you jailbreak it.Jailbreaking is now legal in the US,and basically it just allows you to download third party apps not approved by Apple, however jailbreaking does void your warranty, unless you restore it.Battery life on the iPhone is decent but coul be better. If you order the iPhone or buy a used one, make sure you put an unactive sim card in the phone before connecting to iTunes, you have to activate it on itunes.Overrall im very happy with my iPhone and i give it a 10/10

DISCLAMIER:These were all my personal opinions,im not in any way associated with or being paid by any of the companies to promote sales, these were just my opinions from experience with each device.

Hopefully this helps,if your debating which smart phone to get the only way to know which you like is to go into the store and look at and mess with one of the phones that the store has out for people to look at.
Have a great day and have fun smart phone shopping!

Maintaining Colored Hair

Did you know about 94% of America's population is made up of people who color their hair?People color their hair for many reasons,to cover gray,to lighten or darken your natural color,or maybe you just want a fun purple streak in your hair;but whatever color service you do,you have to maintain the color.

1.Bleaching-A common misconception with bleached hair is theirs basically no maintnence, which if false, since bleaching lightens hair dramatically, when your roots grow out even the slightest itll be noticeable. Also, bleaching is not cheap, even if you do it yourself, you have to buy the bleach, the developer,a toner(which youll more than likely need) and a developer for the toner.however if your a smart shopper, usually Sallys Beauty Supply,or your local beauty supply will sale the bleach powder in the tubs,it should be anywhere from $16 to $20,and you get atleast 7 uses, which beats the one use $3 packets of bleach. You should also but your developer in a larger size, itll all pay off in the long run.Another common misconception is people with bleached think that all they have to do to maintain the color is bleach and tone there rots every two months, which is also false.Toners are demi permanent color that deposit blue or purple tones  to cancel out any orange or yellow tones in bleached hair.Being as,the toner is demi permanent it washes out eventually and your hair will start getting a yellow tone to it,a quick fix is to use a purple based shampoo for blonde,or gray hair, use that once a week(two frequently can cause your hair to have a lavender tint)and your hair shouldnt have any yellow tones.
2.Semi-permanent Hair color-semi permanent color lasts 3 washes at the most, this can consist of anything from colored hair gel or spray hair color,or temporary hair color, people usually use semi permanent to add a bizarre color such as pink or blue to their hair temporarily,it wont damage the hair because it doesnt penetrate the hair cuticle.
3.Demi-permanent hair color-Dont confuse semi permanent and demi permant color.demi permanent usually lasts up to 26 shampoos.demi permanent color will only darker or enhance hair color,it will not lighten it.Demi permanent adds intensive shine and also will not damage the hair.
4.Permanent hair color-Permanent hair color is whats easiest to find, the box dyes you get at wal-mart or drugstores is usually permanent.Permanent color is recommended for grey hair because it alters your hair, its lifts and then deposits color, which can be somewhat drying to the hair after a while(therefore make sure to invest in a great moisturizing conditioner)permanent color will also lighten hair, however it will not lighten hair that has been previously colored with permanent color.Lets say you have natuaral black hair that youve never colored, and you apple a light blonde permanent color, what it will do is lighten your hair to a reddish brown, therefore if your wanting bleach blonde hair you must use bleach.
5.Maintenance-No color is permanent, its just not.Even though permanent color is advertised as permanent it will fade, however,it wont fade back to your natural color, being as permanent lifts then deposits color. Therefore, invest in a good color protecting shampoo(sulfate free preferably) and a good moisturizing conditioner.Lastly, protein treatments, moisturing masks, etc, are great ways to keep your colored hair healthy, theyre more intensive then your every day conditioner so shampoo youru hair, apply a treatment, cover hair with a shower cap and do housework to give the treatment time to penetrate the hair cuticle.
So once again,im J Blake,The Hair Guru wishing everyone a great day and fabulous color!
